
Shanghai Metals Market (SMM) reported on August 31 that China’s praseodymium-neodymium (Pr-Nd) oxide output increased by about 10% month on month in August. According to the report, recycling-based processors accounted for most of the additional output, while production from raw-ore separation changed less materially.
A recycling-led supply change
SMM attributed the stronger recycling-side activity to available feedstock inventories after maintenance work and to more positive market expectations. The report said some plants were able to restart and raise operating rates without waiting for a new material-preparation cycle. It also indicated that raw-ore separation output may respond later, rather than immediately.
Relevance for NdFeB magnet sourcing
Pr-Nd is an important material input for many sintered NdFeB magnets. A change in oxide output can be relevant to the supply backdrop, but it does not determine the price or availability of a finished magnet by itself. Grade, heavy-rare-earth additions, alloying, yield, machining, coatings, logistics and supplier capacity all remain part of a component quotation.
Buyers should use market reports as context for supplier discussions, not as a substitute for a live quotation. For planned production, confirm material grade, agreed validity period, lead time and traceability requirements with the magnet manufacturer.
